REEL MOWERS
REEL MOWERS:
Reel mowers are used where height of cut is needed
below one inch. Most of the professional sports fields you
see displayed on TV are mowed with powered reel mowers. Golf
Greens are also mowed with reel mowers. Powered reel mowers
are not generally used by homeowners as most models run into the
thousands of dollars.
Shown below is one of the better made home-use Reel
mower models available for online purchase at Country Home
Products.

Reel Mowers from Seedland.com. |
The old reel mower
with the
wooden handles and cast-iron wheels that you may remember using as
a kid, has changed for the better.
Easy
Use: Push Reel Mowers are incredibly easy to push. Some
even have powered cutting action to make pushing even easier.
Large 8 and 10" wheels make mowing travel easy. Mowing height is
usually adjustable from
1/2" to 2-1/2". The loop handle have foam grips for comfort.
Golf
courses have powered versions of reel
mowers because of their superior cut and speed of travel. We recommend push
versions for small lawns of 5,000 square feet or less that you want
to keep finely manicured. Grasses such as Bentgrass,
Bermuda and
Zoysia look best great when mowed
with a reel mower.
Adjustment -- sharpening -- The problem with the old reel
mowers -- is greatly simplified with the simple Sharpening kits (recommended every other season).
Unusually this is as easy as turning the reel backwards against
a knife bed
with a lapping compound applied. Many of the newer models
rarely need sharpening.
